This week, I quit diet soda and I experienced physical withdrawal symptoms. I am inviting my fellow diet soda lovers from across the globe to join my pledge to never drink this poison again. By quitting diet soda, you will greatly lower your Body Burden* and spread the word that choosing a healthy life is COOL and drinking E. coli feces is NOT COOL.
Withdrawal Symptoms Of Diet Soda:
Diet soda is bad, really bad. I recently quit drinking Diet Pepsi (again) and I totally felt withdrawal symptoms. The first few days, my right eye and lip twitched and when I woke up, my head was pounding. I had a stabbing migraine feeling unlike any other, right on the top left side of my cranium. I also started getting ravenously hungry and craved sweet things like chocolate as if Shark Week was on it’s way.
Strangely enough, I have been eating more and I have lost weight. As a writer, I figured a small lump on my right wrist was from carpal tunnel, but after a few days of having no soda, the lump disappeared completely.
These are just a few symptoms that prove that diet soda is not safe for any of us to drink. How did I allow myself to drink this stuff for so long?
My Beloved Diet Soda Story:
How did I ever start drinking diet soda? I grew up with a divorced midwestern diabetic dad. Although he was a genius in many ways, nutrition was not his forte. In our house, diet soda (Diet Coke to be specific) was just as important as those cute little kid-sized Poland Spring with Fluoride water bottles from Costco (heh). I grew up accustomed to a Chef Boyardee out-of-the-can lifestyle, and we all know just how delicious those Dinosaurs taste with a can of Diet Coke, ya know? *Sigh*
We all know that soda is bad, even dangerous for our health. But, there’s something about these products that gives us that all-American feeling. How many of us grew up with those classic Coca-Cola sponsored holiday commercials?
When we pour ourselves a glass of soda, we feel like we’re home. We feel comforted, like we’re having a treat. We just don’t want to have to face the reality that our beloved sodas are made with toxic chemicals.
These sodas have devastating effects on our health and our bodies that go way beyond what we think we know.
Diet Soda Is Liquid Satan
Did that catch your attention? Good! Diet soda contains ingredients that are really, really bad.
Aspartame: Last year, the European patent for aspartame became available online, confirming speculation that the artificial sweetener is made from the waste products of genetically modified E. coli bacteria. You read that right. Aspartame is made from the feces of E. coli bacteria.
Think Diet Coke works for weight loss? Think again! I lost 5 lbs in a week after quitting diet soda! Coincidence? I think not. The Huffington Post reported that diet sodas and artificial sweeteners trick the body into thinking it is consuming real food and sugar even though it isn’t which could lead to metabolic confusion and overconsumption.
This means that our bodies crave foods when we’re not hungry. When we drink diet sodas, it’s harder for us to feel satiated from meals because our brains are being tricked by the aspartame. Another side effect of aspartame is bloating, which could also explain quick weight loss after quitting.
Feeling kinda icky lately? Chances are your soda could be to blame.
Aspartame accounts for 75% of side effect complaints received by the Adverse Reaction Monitoring System (ARMS) or the US Food and Drug Administration. (NaturalNews)
According to the FDA, chronic toxicity effects from aspartame consumption can occur anywhere from several days to several years (1-20+) years after beginning of use. *Note* Aspartame is clearly described as a drug and a poison.
Just a few chronic illnesses which may be caused by or worsened by chronic, long-term ingestion of aspartame consumption include:
Brain tumors, brain cancer
Chronic fatigue syndrome
Attention Deficit Disorder
Side effects of aspartame consumption include:
Decreased vision and/or other eye problems (blurring, “bright flashes,” tunnel vision)
Pain (or both eyes)
Decreased tears, trouble with contact lens or both
Blindness (one or both eyes)
Tinnitus (“ringing,” “buzzing”)
Severe intolerance for noise
Marked impairment of hearing
Confusion, memory loss, or both
Severe drowsiness and sleepiness
Paresthesias (“pins and needles,” “tingling”) or numbness of limbs
Severe “hyperactivity” and “restless legs”
Severe anxiety attacks
Marked personality changes
Palpitations, rapid heart rate
Shortness of breath
High blood pressure
Skin and Allergies
Severe itching without a rash
Severe mouth and lip reactions
Endocrine and Metabolic
Problems with diabetes, loss of control
Phosphoric Acid: A lesser-known toxin found in sodas is phosphoric acid. Recently, a friend of mine went to work at a yogurt factory. She discovered that phosphoric acid is so acidic, it can actually burn your skin if you’re not protected.
In fact, phosphoric acid is a corrosive material used to remove rust.
A recent YouTube video by NaturalNews.com demonstrated phosphoric acid’s damaging effects on teeth:
3 Tips For Quitting Soda
1. Drink a caffeinated beverage like coffee or tea to avoid headaches. When diet soda-holics suddenly quit, they can wake up with a huge headache. Tylenol should be a last resort.
2. During meals, substitute with seltzer. Consider buying a Sodastream and make your own seltzer from home.
3. Don’t let friends peer pressure you. If they have something to say, just tell them that drinking aspartame (poison) or phosphoric acid is really bad and healthy is the new black, duh.
There are far too many facts that prove that ingredients in diet soda have serious health consequences. Stop turning a blind eye to the truth…aspartame is a poison.
Addiction to diet soda and other sodas containing aspartame is real. By quitting diet soda, you will lower your Body Burden* greatly and, stop supporting an industry that is getting away with poisoning people.
Lowering your Body Burden* is way cooler than drinking E. Coli poop. Who’s with me?
