For those who haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Liz Biren, she’s a total rockstar. At 75 years young, Liz works out hard! We’ve invited her to share her story, one for rockstars of all ages. 😉
Q. Tell me about your active lifestyle and what inspires you to stay fit and keep moving.
A. Well there’s always that health concern when you get older. I wanted to give my body the best chance I could to fight off common diseases as I got older. I also didn’t want to become a crotchety old woman. I wanted to be able to feel good being active. The main thing that motivates me is to prove that I CAN DO IT!
Q. Tell me about your active lifestyle and what you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A. I’m a sculptor. I enjoy the creative process of making something out of nothing. To create an object that means something and carries a message to other people is rewarding. I also knit. It relaxes me and it brings me pleasure that I can create gifts for other people. I enjoy a challenge!
I also think it’s important to stay fit by lifting weights and doing cardio. I work with a trainer that pushes me (Trainer Becca!) and keeps me safe. It’s important to stay strong. I live alone in a house that has an upstairs and a basement. My strength training program keeps me strong enough to battle my stairs and gives me the freedom to stay in this house by myself. It’s a great sense of accomplishment finishing a hard workout.
Q. What advice do you have for other women to motivate them to stay fit?
A.Set realistic goals and add an inch…move forward from there. Striving to achieve a goal and than maybe a little keeps your body and mind going. It gives you a real sense of accomplishment and keeps me from stagnating.
Q. Tell me about your diet…
A.I try and eat healthy. I eat a ton of veggies. I can only eat what I like. I enjoy cooking so I make things that I really enjoy. Lots of VEGGIES! I don’t deprive myself. I enjoy my dessert every night but never overdo it.
