Sugar is incredibly addictive. A recent study shown at the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (2008) shows that sugar is addictive in a similar way to many addictive illegal drugs. Isn’t that scary?! As well as sugars addictive qualities, our bodies crave the boost of energy that sugary foods provide. And if we LET them, our cravings for sugar can get out of control resulting in a nasty side effects for our bodies; diabetes, heart disease, cellular aging, wrinkles, breakouts and even cancer!
So how do you stop yourself from craving sugar? EAT protein & healthy fat rich foods, complex carbohydrates, eat regularly to maintain blood sugar levels, stay hydrated + ensure you get enough sleep!

Nuts & Seeds
Seeds and nuts are easy to carry around and contain those ALL important protein and fats which provide you with slow releasing energy. Protein also sends ‘STOP EATING’ messages to our brains which will reduce our appetite between meal times .
Fresh juices + Smoothies
Combining fruit and vegetables in a juice or a smoothie is a TASTY way of digesting all of your vitamins and nutrients! PLUS juices and smoothies are sweet and filling too! TRY our kale berry smoothie recipe.
Fruit is naturally sweet and unbelievably delicious! EATING fruit that contains a lot of water will make you feel fuller too. HIGH water containing fruits are watermelon, grapefruit, lemon, peach + tomato.
Eating whole grains will slowly release energy which will prevent sugar cravings. TRY eating quinoa with sliced strawberries + cinnamon as a mid-afternoon snack, adding bulgur wheat to your lunches and eating brown rice instead of white rice.
Sautéing your vegetables brings out their natural sweetness. Sauté the vegetables in healthy oils like canola oil, coconut oil or hemp oil. Sautéing is quick + easy to do, too!
A spoonful (or two!) of peanut butter, almond butter, cashew nut butter or pumpkin seed butter are amazing afternoon pick-me-ups! PLUS, they are high in protein + healthy fats too! High protein to fat ratio foods help control blood sugars which means you will have a reduced chance of a sugar crash = less chance of having sugar cravings! TIP: buy organic + make sure the nut butter has no added sugar or salt.

Add spices to stop your body getting bored with plain tasting foods! Spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and cardamom will add a rich flavor to your foods.
