March is the perfect month to clean up your skincare and beauty routine. If you slowly start phasing out toxic products, replacing one item a week with a safe, low body-burden alternative, you will have a perfect beauty bag in no time at all. Here are some of my spring favorites, with of course, deodorant topping the list. (I consider deodorant one of the main personal care items that should be guaranteed toxin-free).
PiperWai Natural Deodorant~ this charcoal deodorant is topping my list of favorite, safe deodorants these days. Charcoal and tapioca starch absorb odors and sweat. The coconut oil makes for a smooth application. I have not experienced any staining on my clothes and I find I can make it through a Soul Cycle workout without stinking! (although I do still sweat.. remember that safe deodorants allow sweat~ this is a good thing for our bodies~ yet the good ones like Piperwai block odors. I bought mine at BeauTeaBar.com for $11.99.
Acure Argan Oil Face Wipes~ I am finding that these Acure face wipes are one of the only ones on the market that do not contain the harmful ingredient phenoxyethanol. And the amazing news… they work brilliantly. During our winter vacation in the caribbean, (in which we travel with a few other families) these were the hottest item in my beach bag. Both kids and adults loved them for a mid-day refresh and for me, they are a really nice makeup remover and post-workout cleanser. $6.99
Tata Harper Replenishing Nutrient Complex— to brag for a moment, I was one of the early followers of Tata Harper Skincare. I got to meet Tata in Montauk 5 years ago, when she was doing mini spa parties and facials. I was a huge fan immediately of all of her products.. and this replenshing nutrient roll-on continues to be one of my favorites. Tata’s products are expensive (very high quality ingredients and beautiful bottling ) so if there is just one product you want to indulge in yourself or treat your mom too, this is the one! $45.00
RGB Nail Polish Wipes— when I review a product the things I keep in mind are effectiveness, ingredients, overall body burden impact, availability, cost, and universal appeal. With this product, I realized there should be one more category: teenage daughter LOVES it (and constantly asks me to repurchase). These nail polish wipes are awesome: toxin-free (diffiuclt to do with nail polish remover), convenient, medium priced, and they please everyone. A must-buy. $28.00
100 Percent Pure Skin Care— I was so excited when I found this line of skincare in one of my nearby grocery stores. It’s such an encouraging sign that more and more markets are carrying organic, clean skin care lines. 100 Percent Pure makes a wide array of products and I really like this face wash and toner which have ingredients like coconut oil (you have heard about how good oil cleansers are, right??) aloe, honey, green tea and berries. All of these antioxidants combine for an effective, nourishing experience. I’d say the only thing I didn’t enjoy about this line was how tricky it was to remove the cardboard packing from the toner. The bottle was so tightly stuck in there that I had to use sharp scissors to access it. $21.00
Cleaning up your skincare routine to be free of harmful chemicals is something that only you can do. Take it one step at a time, or do it all at once, but either way, make it a priority this spring to go toxin-free so your body can function at its absolute best.
