Can your FRIEND help YOU get quicker results??
I am sure that you have read it a hundred times in magazines and online. Having a motivating partner by your side could be what you are missing to staying consistent and staying on track to a healthier and happier lifestyle.
Three months ago I partnered up with another trainer who is also a very good friend of mine and someone I found to be very inspirational because of her tough and consistent fitness regime. I needed a push and thought she would be perfect to have by my side for those early morning workouts. I was shocked to see my body change so quickly. Having a workout partner that you know will be waiting for you at the gym is very helpful when you want to just roll over and snooze the alarm clock. It is very easy to adapt to the habits of those you surround yourself with so put yourself in the company of others that motivate you and inspire you. If you are around slackers and excuse makers you might find yourself making those same excuses.
2.) Harder and More Intense Workouts
I know from personal experience that when I am working out with someone I am more likely to stay at the gym pushing myself much longer than when I am by myself. It’s a balance now between you and your partner. It is a great feeling to be the one inspiring the other person but also rewarding to finish that last set you didn’t want to do after your workout partner screamed at you “one more, come on we came this far!”. I am a very competitive person. I know that if my workout partner can do it, so can I! I push myself much harder when there is someone to compare myself too and when there is someone there to motivate me!
3.) Make it Fun so you WANT to come back
Talking, laughing, and being silly are all things that happen naturally during my workouts and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It makes time fly and makes the workouts less serious but no less intense. Make sense?? Two heads are better than one! I love sharing my ideas and hearing what my partner’s ideas are and then coming up with a plan for the day. I am always learning something new and being challenged in different ways so I am never bored. You will more than likely become introduced to many health and fitness related events in your community once you get actively involved with your gym or nearest fitness center. Training for races and fundraisers is a great way to meet new and inspiring people.
4.) Reward your SUCCESSES
It can be really hard to see results on yourself. There have been many times that my partner and I point out improvements and results on one another that individually we may not have noticed. There is nothing more FUN and motivating then hearing someone else say “you’re legs are definitely more toned” or “I really notice a difference in your midsection”. Be positive together and pick each other up!! Having someone that can relate to your mission and understands the challenges that you are going through can be really helpful. Set goals together and work towards a plan to accomplish them. Your partner is also someone that you can celebrate your successes with. Share some laughs over a healthy brunch or reward your progress with a mani & pedi or a massage!
There are many times when I want to head out for a run but I notice the sun starting to set and I get a little nervous about being out in the dark by myself. There is definitely strength in numbers so be safe and travel together. On a completely different safety note, having a partner in the gym is awesome to help you with form and of course with that last set that is just too heavy! Having a permanent spotter will allow you to push yourself that much further and also help you avoid injury!
